Clink…the sound of the metal plate coverings the envelope slot of the front door echoed through the living room as it swung back into place. His heart skipped a beat. A sudden chill ran down his spine at that sound, breaking the cold silence of the night.

It was pouring outside, with intermittent lightning flashing through the window, giving a sudden streak of highlight to everything in the house. No one but a nineteen-year old’s figure could be seen sitting on the couch with a thick book sinking into his lap. His gaze shot up at the eerie clinking sound. Still staring at the door, he hesitated, then slowly sat up straight. Silence seized the house once more. A letter? At a time like this? Who would want to send a letter in this weather? He turned his gaze towards the carpet, and shook his head denyingly, trying to put the thought aside.

The clock struck ten and the rain was still pouring outside in buckets. Ferb started feeling antsy. He hated the silence...or being alone, as it reminded him of his dark past. Beginning to feel bored from reading, he closed his book shut and leaned back with a sigh, crossing his arms over his chest. His mind began to drift off into space. It felt like it was just yesterday that his brother, Phineas, proposed to their neighbour across the street, Isabella. A smile slowly crossed his lips at the thought of his dear brother, oh, the memories they had together. Now, he’ll be starting a whole new life and the famous Flynn-Fletcher duo will finally have to part ways.

Ferb looked on the bright side. Of course, he’s been given the honour to be Phineas’ best man on his wedding and had to do a big favour…to guard the wedding rings. Ferb reached into his slacks pocket and felt for two hoop-like items. As he fished them out, he examined the rings, right as another lightning flashed, highlighting the intricate details of the jewels.

Floral patterns were engraved along the hoop of pure gold, mined from the deepest bowels of the Earth. The excess gold was shaped into curls that held the magnificent diamond, from the ancient volcanoes of Hawaii, sitting right on top. Phineas worked hard to create them, its unique design, its materials, those that can’t be found anywhere else in the world…just for this special occasion.

But then, Ferb’s smiled disappeared. Ever since he’d had the rings with him, he’s always been worrying. What if something happens to them? What if he drops them, loses them? What if someone would want to steal them? It even came to a point where Candace noticed his anxiety and had to calm him down herself.

“You’re just overeacting, Ferb. I know how big of a burden this is for you, being his own brother and all. But you gotta learn to relax. What’s the worst that could happen?” her words resounded in his head. Ferb’s been thinking about it, and, maybe she’s right.

But, boy, was he wrong to think that. He took another glance at the door and thought twice. Maybe he should go and get it, in case it’s some important bills or something. The green-haired teen slowly got up and made his way to the front door. Lately, he’s been receiving letters. But not just any letters…letters form an unknown sender. No sender’s address, sender’s name, stamps. Nothing. It was always sent right to his door step. The weird thing is, he’s been receiving it…ever since Phin and Izzy proposed.

The first one was around two weeks ago and the second, earlier that week, first with ordinary black pen and then, with red. As he slowly inched his way to the door, the white envelope eventually came into view. He bowed down to pick up the letter as he whispered inaudibly, praying that it’s not another one of those mysterious letters. He ripped the envelope open and read its content. Just one look and his eyes widened, his grip tightened, sweat covered his forehead.

He ran to his mobile phone placed on the coffee table and frantically punched in a number.

“Hello, Baljeet?” he said shakily, “We have a problem. The third one, it’s here! This time with big, bold red marker writing!!”

“The letter? Really?!” the Indian’s voice replied on the other end, “What does it say this time?”

“Same as the previous two: Drop the rings, or else…”

End of Prologue

Ok, this is basically the prologue to one of the most complicated fanfics I've ever done. Well, yeah, I've done a heap, but I don't post them, either the story is just lame, or just not good enough to be posted. *shrug* And I wanna say a trillion bunch of sorries if I get any wedding tradition facts wrong throughout the fanfic, or any facts for that matter. I might need some time on this, but I'll definitely finish it, (I'm obviously not redoing the plot 3 times for nothing). Man, MYSTERY STORIES ARE SO HARD TO DO!!!!!!!! I don't know if I should do an official trailer for this, but it sure would be nice though. I suck at animation TT-TT

I just thought it would be sweet if Phin made the rings himself. And considering how many people support him marrying Isabella, there's sure those who don't. and that's what this fanfic's gonna be about. Although it's Phinebella, it's gonna be mostly, if not almost entirely about Ferb trying to get to the bottom of this mystery. Sherlock Holmes all over again. Hehe...

As for now, enjoy!
